California News: SR 89A guardrail work starting along Oak Creek Canyon switchbacks

The Arizona Department of Transportation is replacing guardrails along a 3-mile stretch of State Route 89A in Oak Creek Canyon, beginning April 1, 2026. The project will narrow the road to one lane at times during work hours (6 a.m.–6 p.m. weekdays), with a 12-foot vehicle width restriction and flag crews managing traffic flow.

Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes via Interstate 17 and SR 179 between Flagstaff and Sedona, with completion expected by late summer 2026.
